New President and Members of the Advisory Council

03 April 2025

At its 21st session on 2 and 3 April 2025, the Advisory Council of the Nuremberg Academy met for the first time under the leadership of its new President, Silvia Fernández de Gurmendi. The former President of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the ICC succeeds Navi Pillay, who was no longer available to serve as President but will remain a member of the Advisory Council.

» The great task is to preserve our achievements and ensure that, even in these difficult times, the Academy contributes to preserving and developing international criminal justice and law. This will not be easy, as we face troubling trends. However, the Academy, working with others, can make a significant impact. The key challenge is to navigate this uncertain world effectively.

We are honoured to welcome Professor Piotr Hofmański, Dr Ivana Hrdličková and Professor Leila N. They all make an important contribution to the advancement of international criminal law and the Nuremberg Principles in the fight against impunity for core international crimes.
