On 1 July 2025, the German Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection (BMJV) hosted the ceremonial presentation of the Fritz Bauer Study Prize 2025 in Berlin. The prize is awarded for an outstanding criminological research project on the life, work and significance of Fritz Bauer—a renowned prosecutor and advocate for the rule of law who played a pivotal role in bringing Nazi crimes to justice.

This year’s laureate, Dr Fatih Kolkilic, was honoured during a formal ceremony that included an acceptance speech.

Following the award presentation, a panel discussion explored Fritz Bauer’s legacy and its relevance today. Participants included Prof. Dr Christoph Safferling (Director of the International Nuremberg Principles Academy), Prof. Dr Beate Rudolf (Director of the German Institute for Human Rights, Berlin) and Dr Christoph Barthe (Judge at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers and Senior Federal Prosecutor at the German Federal Court of Justice).

A full recording of the award ceremony, acceptance speech and panel discussion is available on the BMJV website. (bk)
