Philosophical Foundations of International Criminal Law

25 August 2017 - 26 August 2017

More than 120 persons participated in the conference, which was held at the Indian Law Institute, the leading legal research institute in India

The International Nuremberg Principles Academy partnered with the Centre for International Law Research and Policy(CILRAP) and nine other distinguished partners from India, China, Japan and Europe to co-organize the international expert seminar "Philosophical Foundations of International Criminal Law" that took place at the Indian Law Institute in New Delhi on 25-26 August 2017.

More than 30 experts analyzed foundational concepts in international criminal law, correlated the teachings of leading philosophers with the discipline, and explored the potential and limits of the discipline. The project seeks to clarify and deepen the intellectual roots of international criminal law. Such anchoring in older and more diverse schools and traditions of thought should contribute towards maturing international criminal law as a discipline, and cement the consensus around its basic building blocks. The project also aims to offer reflections on how the discipline of international criminal law should evolve further.
