On February 15th, in partnership with the International Rescue Committee, the International Nuremberg Principles Academy hosted a discussion on impunity as a side event at the Munich Security Conference. Moderated by Professor Dr Christoph Safferling, the panel featured former ASP President Silvia Fernández de Gurmendi and international lawyer Janine di Giovanni, Executive Director and Co-Founder of The Reckoning Project. The discussion focused on how the International Criminal Court can collaborate with peace processes, function without the backing of major powers, and defend itself against external challenges. Additionally, the issue of delayed justice was addressed, emphasising the importance of ensuring that victims witness justice being served within a reasonable timeframe. During the panel discussion, the Atlas of Impunity, presented by David Miliband, President of the International Rescue Committee, was introduced. The report highlights countries where impunity for international crimes persists. The Atlas of Impunity serves as a critical tool for tracking accountability, shedding light on global patterns of injustice, and urging stronger enforcement of international law.

The recording of the panel discussion is available at the Munich Security Conference webpage. (gp)
