Ten Years Nuremberg Academy

22 November 2024

Ten years ago today, on 22 November 2014, the founders signed the statute of the International Nuremberg Principles Academy. The idea formulated by former Federal Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Building Dr Oscar Schneider was to create another institution at the historic site of the Nuremberg Trials, which would focus on the implementation of the Nuremberg Principles in addition to the Memorium Nuremberg Trials.

Lord Mayor Dr Ulrich Maly, the Bavarian State Minister of Finance, Dr Markus Söder, and the Bavarian State Minister of Justice, Dr Winfried Bausback, signed the foundation contract alongside Dr Martin Ney, Advisor on International Law at the Federal Foreign Office.

The high demands of promoting peace through law are ambitious. Nevertheless, in the first ten years of its existence, the Nuremberg Academy has carved out an important place for itself in international criminal law. We are proud of this. The situation worldwide continues to demand our tireless commitment. Even if it sometimes does not look as if the Nuremberg Principles will play a role, we are certain that the hour of justice will come.
