Open Day: “Rethinking Peace through Justice – 10 Years Nuremberg Academy”

 

On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, the International Nuremberg Principles Academy invites you to an Open Day on 16 November 2024. The event will take place from 2 to 8 pm in Courtroom 600 as well as in the premises of the International Nuremberg Principles Academy – both located in the east wing of the Palace of Justice, Bärenschanzstraße 72, Nuremberg.

The event's aim is to make international criminal law and the Academy's work accessible to a wider public while encouraging public engagement on both. The programme includes panel discussions with renowned experts, a moot court performance, and an artistic intervention by the Nuremberg State Theatre in Courtroom 600. The individual events in Courtroom 600 will be conducted in German, while certain programme items in the Academy’s premises will be held in English. Admission is free and includes a visit to the Memorium Nuremberg Trials.

  •           3 pm–3.45 pm:

Welcome address by Professor Dr Christoph Safferling, Director of the International Nuremberg Principles Academy

Scenic reading of texts from the Nuremberg Trial, presented by the Nuremberg State Theatre

  • 5 pm–5.45 pm:

 “Between Commitment and Modesty – What’s the Academy’s Role in the Field of International Criminal Law?”

  • 7 pm–7.45 pm:

“Peace (also) through International Criminal Accountability – Is Germany a Good Example?”


Individual Events in the Academy’s premises:

  • 4 pm–4.45 pm:

Moot court performance with students from Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg

  • 6 pm–6.45 pm:

“Dialogue on Contemporary Issues of International Criminal Law”

  • Ongoing:

Film screening of “Peace Through Justice – The Legacy of Thomas Buergenthal” and presentations of Academy projects in the areas of capacity strengthening, research and public discourse
