Tomaz Monchique

Biography
Tomaz Monchique specialises in international humanitarian, human rights and criminal law. Before joining the Academy, he interned as a research assistant at the Amsterdam Centre for Constitutional Culture and Democratic Governance. He has also worked as a legal assistant to UN Human Rights Committee member Professor Doctor Yvonne Donders and as a legal intern at a Portuguese law firm.
Mr Monchique holds a Bachelor of Laws in International and European Law from the University of Groningen, a certification on the Humanitarian Dimensions of International Law from the Université de Genève and a Master of Laws in Public International Law from the University of Amsterdam. His research interests include the regulation of private military and security companies, the individual criminal responsibility of mercenaries, and the interplay between politics and international courts.
He is fluent in Portuguese and English and proficient in Spanish.
