Jolana Makraiová
Biography
Jolana Makraiová is an international criminal law expert with substantial experience working at international and internationalised tribunals. Before joining the Nuremberg Academy, Ms Makraiová worked as an associate legal officer (Chambers) and legal assistant (defence) at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia. Her prior experience also includes working at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (Office of the Prosecutor). Ms Makraiová worked on complex and multi-appellant cases, and she conducted extensive legal drafting of judgments, decisions, motions, witness statements, summaries and numerous legal memoranda addressing some of the under-researched, unresolved, complex or novel legal issues. She also conducted extensive reporting and research on children’s rights in conflict areas while volunteering as a human rights officer for the Stahili Foundation.
As Senior Officer for Interdisciplinary Research at the Nuremberg Academy, she is responsible for developing inter- and multidisciplinary projects advancing international criminal justice.
Ms Makraiová holds a master’s degree from the University of Nottingham (UK) and a bachelor’s degree from the Hague University of Applied Sciences (NL). She obtained both degrees with the highest distinction.
She speaks fluent Slovak and English.
