The Academy, in cooperation with the Initiative of Bavarian Criminal Defense Attorneys and other partners, hosted the first day of the 2025 Dreiländerforum Strafverteidigung (Tri-Nation Criminal Defense Forum) on 19 September 2025. The event took place in Courtroom 600 and was officially opened with speeches by
- Professor Dr Jan Bockemühl, Specialist Lawyer for Criminal Law,
- Dr Thomas Dickert, President of the Nuremberg Higher Regional Court,
- Dr Renate Kropp, Vice President of the Nuremberg Bar Association, and
- Dr Stefanie Hubig, Federal Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection (via video message).
This year’s Dreiländerforum took place under the motto “Law in Injustice – Injustice in Law – Lessons from Nuremberg.” The opening lecture was delivered by Philipp Graebke of Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. He highlighted the Nuremberg trials as the founding moment of international criminal law and illustrated the lasting impact, in particular of the Major War Criminals Trial, on its development. A central focus of his lecture was the role of the defense in these proceedings. The wide range of legal and practical challenges faced by the defense attorneys sparked great interest among the audience. (em)
