Throughout 14 and 15 July 2025, Jolana Makraiová, our Senior Officer for Interdisciplinary Research, participated as a speaker in the second edition of the international criminal justice conference organised by the University of Nottingham. The conference was hosted by the School of Law and Human Rights Centre and was joined by 50 academics and practitioners discussing the latest developments in international criminal justice.

In response to the call for papers, Jolana presented (online) on the topic of complexities behind incitement to violence and hate speech from a criminal justice perspective, highlighting, inter alia, the work that the Nuremberg Academy has done to advance the challenges, as well as combining the reflection on pertaining challenges from a criminal justice perspective. The forthcoming paper will be co-authored with Dr Rachel Horan, our leading expert on the multidimensional knowledge framework developed together with the Nuremberg Academy, aspiring to gain a deeper understanding of hate speech in the context of international criminal law.
