Nuremberg Summer Academy for Young Professionals 2018

06 August 2018 - 17 August 2018

The International Nuremberg Principles Academy conducted the 2018 edition of the Nuremberg Summer Academy for Young Professionals, which took place in Nuremberg, Germany, from 6 to 17 August 2018. The 24 participants included young prosecutors, judges, magistrates and academics, from 19 different conflict and post-conflict countries.

The Nuremberg Summer Academy provided young professionals an invaluable opportunity and stimulating learning experience to acquire or deepen their knowledge of substantive and procedural aspects of international criminal law. Facilitated by leading international experts and practitioners, the participants were provided the opportunity to acquire practical knowledge on all aspects relating to the investigation, prosecution and adjudication of core international crimes.

There were also study visits to the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site, the Documentation Center Nazi Party Rally Grounds, the Memorium Nuremberg Trials and the historic Courtroom 600 of the Nuremberg Palace of Justice in Nuremberg.

The Nuremberg Summer Academy is part of the Nuremberg Academy's mandate to promote scholarship and education through specially tailored training programs that aim at building capacities and strengthening institutions at the national level to investigate and prosecute international crimes.

As the birthplace of modern international criminal law, Nuremberg has a strong symbolic significance for practitioners of the field. The Nuremberg Academy honors this legacy by bringing together young professionals, developing international understanding on the essence of this branch of law and thus promoting sustainable peace through justice and supporting the fight against impunity.
