Nuremberg Academy Director Prof. Dr Christoph Safferling and President of the Advisory Council of the Nuremberg Academy Silvia Fernández de Gurmendi visited Auschwitz on the 80th anniversary of the delivery of the verdicts in Nuremberg.
The horrors of the concentration camp were brought vividly into focus in Nuremberg through the testimony of Rudolf Höss and the staggering figures illustrating the scale of the industrial machinery of extermination. During an extensive tour of the memorial site, the barracks, as well as the remains of the gas chambers and crematoria destroyed by the SS, were visited.
In an extensive discussion with the Director of the Auschwitz Memorial, Dr. Piotr M. A. Cywiński, the conversation focused on the current political situation, the state of Holocaust remembrance in Europe and around the world, and concrete possibilities for further cooperation. (bk)
