Deputy Director in Hamburg for Workshop on Holocaust Education

25 August 2026

On 25 August 2026, Dr Viviane Dittrich, Deputy Director of the Nuremberg Academy, participated in a workshop on Holocaust education in Hamburg, hosted at the invitation of the Mémorial de la Shoah (Holocaust Memorial) in Paris.

The workshop brought together colleagues from the Memorial’s International Relations Department and selected international experts to discuss key developments and current challenges in teaching and learning about the Holocaust. Discussions focused on course design, teaching tools, pedagogical practice, critical engagement, and the implementation of workshops for students and teachers.

Particular attention was given to educational curricula and capacity strengthening seminars developed by the Mémorial de la Shoah, addressing Holocaust remembrance, the study of other genocides and the prevention and prosecution of mass atrocities.

Among the participating experts was Professor Tomislav Duli of the Uppsala Centre for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Uppsala University. The workshop took place at the Landesinstitut in Hamburg and provided an opportunity for exchange on approaches to Holocaust education and the essential role of education in fostering awareness of mass atrocities and their prevention. (vd)
