On 8 July 2026, the Nuremberg Academy welcomed an international group of researchers participating in the annual Cluster Method Lab, a joint initiative of the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights at the University of Oxford and the Cluster of Excellence “The Politics of Inequality”. The Method Lab brings together postdoctoral researchers from the Cluster, international partner institutions, doctoral researchers and faculty members to exchange ideas on interdisciplinary research methods.
The visit began with a guided tour of the East Wing of the Nuremberg Palace of Justice led by Project Officer Dr Pablo Gavira Díaz, introducing participants to the site of the International Military Tribunal (1945-1946) and the Nuremberg Military Tribunals (1946-1949). Following the tour, the group explored the multimedia installation in historic Courtroom 600, gaining further insight into the history and legacy of the Nuremberg Trials.
Director Professor Dr Christoph Safferling then welcomed the participants to the premises of the Academy and presented its mission and core activities. His introduction highlighted the Academy's work in research, public discourse and capacity strengthening, as well as its role as a partner institution of the Cluster of Excellence.
The programme continued with a presentation by FAU Research Associate Philipp Graebke on the DigiNMT project, which introduced participants to the project's innovative approach to the digital analysis and preservation of materials related to the Nuremberg Trials.
The visit concluded with a question-and-answer session, providing participants with an opportunity to engage directly with the Academy's experts and discuss future avenues for academic cooperation. (pg)
