On 16 April 2026, Deputy Director Dr Viviane Dittrich participated in an annual expert meeting organised by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, bringing together scholars and practitioners to exchange on recent developments in international criminal justice and current research projects.
The meeting addressed a range of pressing topics, including the sanctions imposed against the International Criminal Court, their effects and possible responses; international efforts towards a convention on crimes against humanity; and the landmark trial in France of former Congolese rebel leader Roger Lumbala.
Dr Dittrich presented — in French — the Academy's projects and activities. Her presentation featured the Nuremberg Moot Court, the Nuremberg Summer Academies for Young Professionals (Francophone and Anglophone editions), the Academy's annual ICL Research Priz and Résidences Adamas, and a renewed cooperation with the Asser Institute to deliver capacity strengthening seminars for Francophone judges and prosecutors in Central and West Africa.
The meeting was presided over by Sandrine Barbier, Deputy Director of Legal Affairs at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
On 17 April 2026, Dr Dittrich also participated in the conference “La justice transitionelle : défis contemporains ici et ailleurs“ (“Transitional Justice: Contemporary Challenges here and elsewhere“) with main speaker Bernard Duhaime, UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion of truth, justice, reparation and guarantees of non-recurrence. The event was chaired by Professor Olivier de Frouville, Professor of Law at université Panthéon-Assas, where the conference was held. (vd)
