In 2026, the International Nuremberg Principles Academy (Nuremberg Academy) will once again take part in the guided city tours Stadt(ver)führungen. This year, the city tours hosted by the City of Nuremberg are organised around the theme Zeitfenster, which can by translated to “time slot” or “window of opportunity”.
On Saturday, 19 September 2026 at 3 pm, we want to assess the lessons that may be drawn from the German post-war period. We warmly invite you to join our discussion on whether and how the window of opportunity to try the crimes committed during the national socialist aera at criminal courts. We want to examine the conditions that are necessary to successfully come to terms with state-perpetrated injustices. We also want to look at whether the experiences of the German post-war transitional justice system might be applicable to conflict situations today.
Christoph Flügge, former judge at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and at the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (MICT), will engage in a discussion with Stefanie Küfner, currently at the International Criminal Court (ICC) and former staff member at the ICTY, moderated by Astrid Walter (Nuremberg Academy), on whether there ever is a perfect moment for justice.
The event will be public, and it will be held in German language. It forms part of the official programme of the Nuremberg Stadt(ver)führungen, a public event organised by the City of Nuremberg annually for more than 20 years now. Over the course of one weekend more than 1,000 guided city tours offer the possibility to discover Nuremberg, its culture and its history from a variety of new and often unique perspectives.
