In March 2026, the Nuremberg Academy delivered a four-part lecture series on international law in Nuremberg. Dr Viviane Dittrich, Deputy Director of the Nuremberg Academy, delivered the first lecture on the foundations of international law, the development of international criminal law since the Nuremberg trials to the present day, with a spotlight on the ad hoc tribunals, hybrid courts and the permanent International Criminal Court. The second lecture was given by Project Officer Astrid Walter on the security architecture of the United Nations Charter, the prohibition of the use of force and recent violations. Senior Officer Dr Gurgen Petrossian gave a lecture on holding states accountable with a focus on the International Court of Justice and current proceedings especially regarding international crimes. The final lecture was delivered by Professor Dr Christoph Safferling, Director of the Nuremberg Academy, with a focus on holding individuals accountable at the International Criminal Court and current proceedings in The Hague, highlighting key achievements and current challenges. The lecture series, moderated by Pierre Leich, was delivered as part of the Studium Generale of the Bildungszentrum Nürnberg. The series concluded with a visit of the Nuremberg Palace of Justice and Courtroom 600. (vd)
