On 8 December 2025, the Nuremberg Academy welcomed a delegation of judges, legal practitioners and academics from Brazil and Cyprus. Senior Officer Kiran Mohandas Menon and Project Officer Dr Pablo Gavira Díaz received the group and introduced them to the Academy’s mandate, its ongoing projects and its broader contribution to the field of international criminal justice.
After the initial presentation, the visitors took part in a lively and wide-ranging discussion on contemporary challenges in international law. Throughout the exchange, participants reflected on the enduring significance of the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg and considered how its principles continue to influence the work of the International Criminal Court (ICC) today. The conversation touched on issues such as the evolving debate over Head-of-State immunities, the increasing relevance of environmental crimes, the process of amending the Rome Statute, the complexities and opportunities provided by universal jurisdiction and the often-difficult cooperation of ICC States Parties with the Court.
