From October 27 to October 30 2024, Dr Gurgen Petrossian represented the Nuremberg Academy at a Workshop and Conference as part of the ECO-CRIM-NET project, a network focused on investigating and prosecuting environmental crimes. Led by Associate Professor Dr Nandor Knust of the Arctic University of Norway, the event took place in Sommarøy and Tromsø.
The discussions focused on exploring pathways to hold those responsible for environmental harm accountable, with a strong emphasis on securing justice for enviromental damage. Dr Petrossian presented updates on environmental responsibility initiatives at both national and European levels, particularly in relation to the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG) and the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).
The Nuremberg Academy is committed to ensuring the prosecution of environmental crimes under international criminal law. In March 2024, the Nuremberg Academy, represented by Project Officers Dr Pauline Martini and Dr Pablo Gavira, responded to the ICC-OTP's call for policy paper on environmental crimes together with the Institute of Commonwealth Studies and Oxford Sustainable Law Programme.
