On 25 October 2023, the Nuremberg Academy hosted a group of 25 students from the “European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations” at the University of Oldenburg. Project Officers Pauline Martini and Dr Pablo Gavira Díaz welcomed the students and introduced them to the work of the Nuremberg Academy. In addition, Dr Gavira Díaz presented a special topic on the legal definition of genocide. This was followed by a discussion on the various acute challenges revolving around the so-called “crime of crimes”. The group showed great interest in the specifics of the crime, with special emphasis on the meaning of “intent to destroy” and its practical repercussions.
The visit of the group to the Nuremberg Academy was one of the stations of a study tour, which previously led them to the Memorium Nuremberg Trials and Courtroom 600. The group of students was heterogeneous in character: 16 different nationalities were present in the room from disparate backgrounds and specialities, including sociology, political science, law and international relations.
