On 12 July 2022, the International Nuremberg Principles Academy (Nuremberg Academy) participated in the Berg Institute’s Human Rights academic programme entitled “Derechos Humanos en el Terreno 2022” (Human Rights in the Field 2022). The programme brings together legal professionals from Spain and Latin America to study international relations, human rights law and democracy, and includes visits to institutions and international organisations based in Belgium, France, Germany, Luxemburg, the Netherlands and Spain.
As part of the programme’s activities, the Nuremberg Academy was invited to Otzenhausen, Germany, to deliver a lecture on its work and the legacy of the Nuremberg Principles. In this regard, Senior Officer for International Criminal Law at the Academy, Mr Ricardo Izquierdo, gave a presentation on the relevance of the Nuremberg Principles for contemporary and future international criminal law. The activity allowed participants to discuss past, current and future challenges facing the International Criminal Court and the global fight against impunity for core international crimes, with a special focus on the Latin America region.
