Visit by a Group from the Irish Centre for Human Rights

On 28 June 2022, Director Klaus Rackwitz welcomed a group of twelve students and PhD students in international law, international criminal law and human rights from the Irish Centre for Human Rights. The visit represented one station of their study tour in Nuremberg which also led them to the Memorium Nuremberg Trials and the Documentation Centre Nazi Party Rally Grounds.
Director Klaus Rackwitz presented the Academy and its work to the students. The subsequent discussion addressed questions on the influence of the Nuremberg trials and their legacy on modern international criminal law (ICL), the specific experiences in Germany following the two phases of transitional justice, the still limited acceptance of ICL and the continuing risk of impunity as seen in the situations of Syria and, most recently, Ukraine.
