Nuremberg Academy and Grotius Centre refine methodology on Complementarity Project

On 14-15 July 2016, the International Nuremberg Principles Academy and the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies held an expert roundtable to refine the methodology of a joint research project on complementarity. The methodological framework was designed by a team of experts (Prof. Carsten Stahn, Prof. Chandra Sriram and Marieke Wierda), in collaboration with the team of the Nuremberg Academy. It provides a framework to assess the fairness and effectiveness of the investigation and prosecution of international crimes in conflict and post-conflict settings. The roundtable brought together a broad group of experts, including practitioners from Hague Courts and Tribunals (ICC, ICTY, STL, MICT), academics, NGO representatives and country experts. The methodology document will be used to examine complementarity in six countries: Afghanistan, Colombia, CAR, DRC, Palestine and Ukraine. Further information on the project can be found here.
