Federal Armed Forces visited the Nuremberg Academy

On 11 September 2024, a few members of the German Air Force Command visited the Nuremberg Academy as part of a study tour to the Nuremberg Palace of Justice. Director Professor Dr Christoph Safferling welcomed the group and introduced the mission and activities of the Academy. In addition, Professor Safferling spoke about the Nuremberg Trials, with emphasis on the crime against peace and its insertion into the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court as the crime of aggression. This served as the starting point to explain the legal intricacies of the current conflict in Ukraine. Considering that the purpose of the study tour was transitional justice processes, other topics for discussion included the role of international criminal law after a conflict and the situation in Afghanistan since the withdrawal of United States troops in August 2021.
