A group of students from Finnish Åbo Academy University visited the Nuremberg Academy on 30 March 2022. The visit represented one station of their study trip to Nuremberg. Director Klaus Rackwitz presented the Academy and its work to the students who specialise in international law, political economics, sociology and political sciences.
The following exchange focused on the influence of the Nuremberg trials on the German judiciary and the German cases against former perpetrators, the development of international criminal law after Nuremberg, the still existing gaps in combatting impunity for perpetrators of core international crimes. The discussion also addressed the present situation in Ukraine and the multiple efforts on national level through investigations in Germany, the European level and the international level to investigate war crimes allegedly committed during the war since February 2022.
