On 18 June, the Director of the Nuremberg Academy Klaus Rackwitz welcomed international students of the Human Rights Master Program of the Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg for a lecture about "Complementarity and Cooperation – The Role of Territorial States in Proceedings before the ICC". This lecture was part of the module on International Criminal Law directed by Dr. Hilde Farthofer.
Klaus Rackwitz explained, inter alia, the obligations of the States Parties to cooperate in proceedings before the ICC, the system of legal assistance in proceedings before the ICC and the duality of proceedings before the ICC and the national courts of the States Parties. Particular emphasis was placed on the need for formal cooperation between national law enforcement authorities and the ICC, as set out in Part IX of the Rome Statute.
The Nuremberg Academy is very pleased to contribute once again this year, to the Human Rights Master Program with its expertise in international criminal law.
