Inauguration of bench in presence of Benjamin Ferencz at the Peace Palace in The Hague

The International Nuremberg Principles Academy was invited to the bench inauguration ceremony, in the presence of Benjamin “Ben” Ferencz, sole surviving prosecutor from the Nuremberg Trials, at the Peace Palace in The Hague on 27 May. The Director and Deputy Director of the Nuremberg Academy, Klaus Rackwitz and Dr. Viviane Dittrich, attended the reception and moving ceremony at the Peace Palace. The purpose-built bench donated by Benjamin Ferencz has been set up just outside the Peace Palace. The inscription on the bench fittingly reads “Law. Not War.”

That evening the new documentary “Prosecuting Evil: The Extraordinary World of Ben Ferencz” was screened at the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies, Leiden University, as part of the opening evening of the ICC Moot Court Competition. The film highlighted the legacy of the Nuremberg trials for modern international criminal law and the extraordinary contribution and commitment of Ben Ferencz. A discussion including Ben Ferencz his son Don Ferencz and filmmaker Barry Avrich followed the screening.
