The Observatoire Ivoirien des Droits de l’Homme (OIDH), in collaboration with the International Nuremberg Principles Academy, held a three-day training on international crimes for Ivoirian magistrates in Abidjan, Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, from 14 to 16 December 2023. Twenty Ivoirian magistrates attended the training, including first instance and appeals judges, as well as deputy prosecutors and prosecutors. The training was part of the OIDH’s project on the fight against impunity for international crimes in the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire.
The Nuremberg Academy was represented in Abidjan by Senior Officer for Training and Capacity-Building Darleen Seda, who made the opening speech on behalf of the Nuremberg Academy, and Project Officer Pauline Martini, who delivered the closing speech. Ms Martini moreover taught sessions on the history of international criminal law; genocide and crimes against humanity; and war crimes and the crime of aggression. She also animated a session together with Xavier-Jean Keïta, Principal Counsel of the Office of Public Counsel for the Defence at the International Criminal Court, on general principles of international criminal law. Speakers also included Youssoupha Diallo, Deputy Prosecutor at the Court of Appeals of Dakar, Senegal, and former Deputy Prosecutor at the Extraordinary African Chambers, as well as Éric-Aimé Semien, President of the OIDH.
