Expert workshop on “E-Procedure: Evidence in Time of Increased Use of Technology and Digitalization”

The International Nuremberg Principles Academy organized an expert workshop in furtherance of its project on “E-Procedure: Evidence in Time of Increased Use of Technology and Digitalization” on 8 and 9 February 2019.

The Nuremberg Academy invited experts from 17 international organizations and institutions in Europe and North America. The workshop focused on mapping and deliberating on the nature of the project to explore possible synergies on its scope, structure, relevance and strengths. This workshop marked the first step in the project. It covered various subjects related to the continuous and increased usage as well as the sophistication of such evidence and its potential impact on different judicial and quasi-judicial mechanisms at national, regional and international levels.

To successfully achieve the project goals, the Nuremberg Academy has adopted a multidisciplinary approach to this project. Overall, it aims to address questions related to the increased usage of digital evidence with emphasis on the practical guidance. This will include an assessment of rules that can be used in the day-to-day operations of accountability mechanisms, including the International Criminal Court.
