On 24 July 2024, the Nuremberg Academy, represented by Director Professor Dr Christoph Safferling, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights, represented by its President Jean-François Thony. Also present during the signing event were Nuremberg Academy Senior Officers Kiran Mohandas Menon, Dr Gurgen Petrossian and Darleen Seda.
The agreement aims to bolster collaboration between the two institutions through: organising joint symposia and conferences, implementing capacity strengthening programs and facilitating knowledge exchange through research projects. Commencing this cooperation, the Nuremberg Academy will contribute to the implementation of the Regional Atrocity Crimes Training Platform (REACT) project. The project seeks to provide sustained capacity strengthening initiatives and technical assistance for the investigation and prosecution of atrocity crimes at the national level, particularly from Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia regions.
The partnership underscores a commitment by the two institutions to advance international criminal justice and related human rights. (ds)
