On 9 November 2023, Julia Klaus, a PhD candidate and Research Assistant at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, visited the Nuremberg Academy to deliver a talk titled “The Tokyo Judgment at 75: Peeking Behind the Cloak of Judicial Secrecy”.
The discussion delved into the historical and legal perspectives of the Tokyo Tribunal while detailing the intricate dynamics of the eleven judges presiding over the Tokyo Trial. Further, Ms Klaus examined how the judges often experienced disagreements thus seeking guidance from their respective governments, resulting in varying degrees of involvement from different states. The session also explored disparities in legal cultures and transcultural differences of the Bench.
The talk was followed by an engaging and interactive discussion.
