Nuremberg Academy Talk Delivered by Professor Shane Darcy

On 25 September 2023, Professor Dr Shane Darcy (Irish Centre for Human Rights, University of Galway) visited the Nuremberg Academy. After being welcomed by Director Professor Dr Christoph Safferling and Deputy Director Dr Viviane Dittrich, he gave a talk titled “Collaboration and its Consequences in Ukraine: Does International Law Have a Role?”.

His talk shed light on the dissonances that have shaped international law´s relationship with collaboration during armed conflict. The talk had a particular focus on the prevalence and challenges raised by collaboration in the Ukrainian context. It further examined the lacunae in international humanitarian law´s regulatory frameworks in relation to the use of informers and collaborators in armed conflict. The talk was followed by an engaging and interactive discussion.

The Nuremberg Academy Talks explore topical issues in the fields of international criminal law, transitional justice and human rights. Since February 2023, the Nuremberg Academy regularly invites external guest speakers and staff members to deliver a talk and engage in dialogue with the Academy team.
