Participation of the Nuremberg Academy in the Annual Meeting of the Arbeitskreis Völkerstrafrecht

On 6 and 7 May 2022, Director Klaus Rackwitz participated in the Seventeenth Annual Meeting of the Arbeitskreis Völkerstrafrecht, which took place in Berlin. It was the first in-person meeting of the German speaking international criminal law (ICL) experts since 2019. Key topics discussed this year included the war in Ukraine and its impact on ICL, the acceptance and application of ICL in the Global South, new developments in ICL with a focus on the Special Criminal Court in the Central African Republic, the developments in the field of ICL in Austria, Germany and Switzerland and the latest jurisprudence of the International Criminal Court.

The annual meeting is the largest gathering of this group, hosted in a different city each year and bringing together up to 100 scholars and practitioners. Due to the pandemic situation, no in-person meeting could take place in 2020 and 2021.
