Gender and Transitional Justice in East Africa: Exchanging Experiences and Expertise

 

The International Nuremberg Principles Academy is partner of a Conference on Gender and Transitional Justice in East Africa organized by Strathmore Institute for Advanced Studies in International Criminal Justice (SIASIC) on the occasion of the opening of its specialized Centre for Gender and Transitional Justice. Further partners are the Prosecuting Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (PSV) Network and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. The Conference took place on the 6th and 7th July 2017 at Strathmore University, Nairobi, Kenya.

The Conference was comprised of three sessions which focused on women’s participation in transitional justice processes, on girls in transitional justice processes and on the question of how to strengthen the system for securing justice for victims of sexual violence. Academy's Project Officer, Ms. Farah Mahmood, presented a set of Guiding Principles and Recommendations elaborated by the Nuremberg Academy on Improving Cooperation in the Prosecution of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence.
