The International Nuremberg Principles Academy is pleased to announce and invite you to the Nuremberg Forum 2020, its major annual conference held at Courtroom 600 in the Nuremberg Palace of Justice Nuremberg, Germany, on 16 and 17 October 2020.

The Nuremberg Forum 2020 will pay tribute to the 70th anniversary of the formulation of the Nuremberg Principles, the principles of international law recognized by the Charter of the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg. The International Law Commission, a body of experts established to help develop and codify international law since 1947, was entrusted  to formulate these principles, which was finalized in 1950. The conference will critically reflect and analyze the Nuremberg Principles in light of the interplay between theory and practice. It will specifically look at and consider the ongoing challenges during the last 70 years while looking into the future and considering opportunities for the furtherance of international criminal law (ICL).

Through this critical and analytical approach, the Nuremberg Forum 2020 will reflect on the development of ICL and the international criminal justice system as a whole. The core question for this high-level conference is whether the international community is living up to the standard set out by the Nuremberg Principles and what challenges, if any, persist in terms of strengthening the common fight for justice and the fight against impunity.

The Nuremberg Academy is dedicated to the advancement of international criminal law and related human rights, supporting the fight against impunity for universally recognized core international crimes, and promoting sustainable peace through justice. Thus, this conference is aiming to look at major challenges through the lens of innovation and pragmatism.
