Presentation of the Documentary “Peace Through Justice” at the International Human Rights Film Festival-Albania and Panel Discussion in Tirana

17 September 2019

The documentary “Peace Through Justice - The Legacy Of Judge Buergenthal” was screened at the 14th edition of the International Human Rights Film Festival-Albania (IHRFFA) in Tirana on 17 September 2019. This annual six-day festival aims “to bring the people of Tirana and Albania, the international community and representatives of government together to understand the nature of human rights and seek to find new ways to further realize the promises of human rights,” as explained the IHRFFA-Honorary President Theodore S. Orlin. The festival’s 2019 theme “Ignorance Kills” addressed a serious development that threatens the very roots of democratic principles and the respect of human rights.

The screening of the documentary at the Albanian Parliament was followed by a panel discussion with Gramoz Ruçi, Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, Gent Ibrahimi, Head of the Albanian High Prosecutorial Council, Sokol Sadushi, Director of the Albanian School of Magistrates, Theodor Orlin, Honorary President of the IHRFFA, Eduardo Toledo, Senior Officer for International Criminal Law of the Nuremberg Academy, and Sabine Jainski, co-author of the documentary. The discussion was moderated by the founding Director of the Nuremberg Academy and current Head of the OSCE Presence in Albania, Ambassador Bernd Borchardt. The panel focused particularly on international criminal law, the crimes of former totalitarian regimes, transitional justice, justice reforms, and legal frameworks.
