On 16 July 2026, the Nuremberg Academy welcomed students from Labenwolf-Gymnasium in Nuremberg for a session on the differences between the German and the US criminal justice systems. The visit formed part of a cooperation with the school's Law and Economics department and built on the students' prior classroom discussion of a criminal case conducted under German law.
Professor Dr. Christoph Safferling, Director of the Nuremberg Academy, introduced the key differences between the two legal systems and discussed them with the students by analysing a simulated criminal trial conducted under US law. The session focused on procedural aspects, the roles of the different participants in criminal proceedings and the distinct legal traditions underlying both systems. The exchange provided the students with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of comparative criminal procedure and to reflect on the importance of the rule of law from an international perspective.
