Seminar on the Investigation and Prosecution of International Crimes for Magistrates from francophone Africa 2026

From 19 to 23 October 2026, the International Nuremberg Principles Academy, the T.M.C. Asser Instituut and the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) will organise the 8th edition of the training course, ‘Capacity Building for Judicial Officials in the Prosecution of International and Transnational Crimes in Africa’ at the Asser Institute, The Hague.

The five-day seminar will bring together francophone magistrates from Western and Central Africa and will provide them with practical knowledge and tools for addressing international and transnational crimes in Africa. The programme will combine expert lectures, case studies and interactive discussions. Topics covered will include the constituent elements of international crimes, terrorism and non-state armed groups, transnational organised crime and human trafficking, conflict-related sexual violence, digital evidence and OSINT techniques, complementarity, judicial cooperation, and the rights of witnesses, victims and the accused. The seminar will be complemented by a visit to the International Criminal Court, giving participants direct insight into the workings of an international court. (ah/ds)
