On 16 December 2025, the Nuremberg Academy took part in a guided visit to the historic Faber-Castell Castle in Stein, near Nuremberg. Rich in cultural and historical significance, the castle played an important role in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War: between 1945 and 1946, it served as the International Military Tribunal (IMT) Press Camp, accommodating journalists, writers and other professionals reporting on the trial of the major war criminals before the IMT in Nuremberg.
The guided tour led by Nadège Hungerecker offered participants an in-depth exploration of the castle’s principal rooms while tracing the history of the Faber-Castell family across several generations. The tour also highlighted the development of Faber-Castell AG, the renowned manufacturer of pencils and writing instruments. By combining architectural, industrial and historical perspectives, the visit underscored the castle’s multifaceted past, including its function during the first Nuremberg Trial as a residence for prominent journalists such as Markus Wolf, Rebecca West, Erich Kästner, John Dos Passos, Willy Brandt and Erika Mann, among others.
